Mohamed Salah has been named as the 2023 Football Supporters’ Association player of the year for the third time.

The Liverpool forward takes the accolade for the third time in his career having previously received the honour in 2018 and 2021.

He was announced as fans’ player of the year yesterday (Monday) evening in London having come out on top in a poll that received over 500,000 votes.

Salah held off competition from other players in the shortlist including Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Rodri, as well as Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins and Kieran Trippier.

The winger is just the fourth Liverpool player to win the award. Other previous winners include Kevin De Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, Virgil Van Dijk and Harry Kane.

Salah said; “I want to thank everybody for the FSA award, especially because it has been voted by fans. I really appreciate it.”

At club level, the Egyptian international has netted 27 goals this calendar year as well as providing three assists.

The FSA is the national representative body for football supporters in England and Wales. They advocate for diversity, cheaper ticket prices, protecting fans’ rights and better fan engagement amongst other things.

They are the largest support-led awards in the country with 84 categories battling it out last night across 14 categories.

Other awards included the Anfield Wrap for Podcast of the Year and Jamie Carragher for Pundit of the Year.
