Police are appealing for more information following the arrest of two people in connection with the death of a 90-year-old woman in the Wirral.

Police received a report at 11:20am yesterday that Myra Thompson had been found in a house on Bolde Way in Spital. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist detectives.

A 48-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman from the Wirral have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

A mobile police station has been put into place in the area alongside high visibility patrols.

Merseyside Police also referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in relation to the death, as the force had been investigating a recent allegation of theft on behalf of the woman.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Baker said: “Our thoughts and condolences are very much with the woman’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

He described the case as very shocking and distressing and assured that police are doing all they can to fully establish what has taken place.
