A planning proposal to build over 50 new properties, including houses and retirement flats, on land next to the Ronald McDonald House in Stoneycroft has been approved by Liverpool Council.

The Ronald McDonald house is a unit designed for parents of very sick children to have a place to stay whilst their child undergoes treatment.

The council voted five to four in favour of the project, meaning it passed by one vote.

The planning proposal drew lots of attention, generating over 500 letters of objection.

Those opposed to the development say it could jeopardise the privacy and peace of families living in the most difficult circumstances.

The land was previously used as the Alder Hey children’s hospital, before it was demolished.

There’s no confirmed date yet for when construction will begin.

To view the proposal, look for application 23F/1905 on the Liverpool Council planning page.
