VAR assistants Darren England and Daniel Cook will return to their duties this weekend after controversy struck in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham on September 30.
England will be fourth official for Brentford’s home game against Burnley on Saturday and Cook will return as assistant referee for Manchester United’s trip to Sheffield United.
The two officials made what was later labelled as a ‘significant human error’ with miscommunication between VAR England and referee Simon Hooper led to Luis Diaz’ goal wrongly being deemed offside, a goal which could have changed the outcome of the game with the North London side coming out on top.
Both officials were stood down the following week after an investigation made by PGMOL concluded that a ‘clear and obvious factual error’ was made and that the VAR officials should of intervened.
Referees’ chief Howard Webb said that steps have been taken to avoid a repeat of the controversy, adding: “We can’t sacrifice accuracy for speed.”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was among those who furious about the decision with the German even calling for a replay of the fixture after VAR also contributed to the sending off of midfielder Curtis Jones.
