After Errol Musk, the father of the richest man in the world, hinted at a possible Liverpool take-over, it sparked a host of rumours.
The Tesla owner has links to the city through his grandparents and is looking to invest into a sports team with relevance to him. Musk junior has already made a major purchase with Twitter in 2022 (now called X) and is looking to expand the reach of his brand.
Buying a football club has become all the rage for billionaires in recent times. Spotify founder Daniel Ek was linked to buying Arsenal for multiple years and rapper Asap Rocky has been linked to acquiring Tranmere Rovers.Â
In an interview with Times Radio, Musk Sr said about Elon: “He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to, so would I.
“His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know.”
However, club owners FSG have acted to deny rumours of a purchase and said they are only open to investments instead of a full take-over.
Liverpool is estimated to be worth £4.25bn – easily affordable with Elon’s £343bn net worth.
The next steps are unclear … but as with most situations, money talks and if the number is right FSG could change their mind.
