Daniel Remmington, 29, from Greasby has today been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of fraud by abuse of position.

He was sentenced today (22nd April) at Liverpool Crown Court.

Between March 2019 and April 2020, Remmington stole £186,000 from his employer, Liverpool Motor Auction, to fund his gambling habits.

Remmington managed to transfer money into his own Halifax account and fake documents to hide the company’s deficit.

The financial strain this put on Liverpool Motor Auction led to several people losing their jobs as the company became unable to pay its debts.

Detective Inspector Chris Hawitt said: “This was a lengthy and complex fraud investigation and I’m thankful that a jury saw through Remmington’s lies and found him guilty of the offence.

“I hope this case highlights that stealing from a business is not a victimless crime and can impact on innocent people. Sadly, a number of people lost their jobs and this would not only have affected them, but also their families who would have been distressed and worried.

Merseyside Police has urged people to report cases of fraud by calling 101 or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter(X) or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook.
