The LCR Pride Foundation has announced the recipients of its inaugural round of grants from the Community Fund, targeting initiatives aimed at fostering positive change for the LGBT+ community in the Liverpool City Region.

In partnership with Barclays, the regions LGBT+ charity made up to £15,000 in grassroots funding available as part of a significant three-year collaboration.

The fund was established in 2020 during the Covid19 pandemic. Since the launch of the LCR Pride Foundation in January, a substantial influx of applications from individuals and groups committed to breaking down barriers faced by LGBT+ individuals in their daily lives.

Among the projects awarded the £1,000 grant in the first round are the LGBTQI Domestic Abuse Open Support Sefton, PROUD to be Little Movers and the Mersey Rose Inclusion Project.

The LCR Pride Foundation encourages more community-lead initiatives to apply for funding, with applications closing on Friday March 8th.

Andi Herring, CEO of LCR Pride Foundation, expressed delight at the response to the fund stating: ‘We are delighted with the number of applications received so far and it has been incredibly inspiring to hear some of the amazing organisations across the region to improve the lives of LGBT+ people”.

Herring addressed the difficulty in selecting the winning applicants, emphasising the foundations excitement in releasing the initial round of grants and its commitment to supporting promising projects. “As ever it is a difficult task deciding which groups to award funding to as every applicant is deserving, but we are excited to release this initial round of grants and look forward to supporting such promising projects.”

Anne O’Donoghue, the Group Diversity Inclusion representative for Barclays commented on the partnership, she said: “It is an honour for Barclays to support and champion groups that are making a difference for LGBT+ people in the Liverpool City Region”.
