Sam Forryan DJ set

Liverpool DJ and Dance for Plants founder Sam Forryan has recently started a new up-and-coming music series called The Chamomile Tea Mixes.

After setting up Dance for Plants in 2020, Sam has been throwing not-for-profit parties to raise money and promote environmental charities ever since, as well as encouraging music venues to reconsider their approach to single-use plastics for their events.

With the ever-growing damages to the environment, changes like the ones Dance for Plants have been implicating have the ability to make a huge difference. Dance for Plants have worked with numerous charities over the years such as World Land Trust and The Future Forest Company as well as local charities Bloom Building Birkenhead, Liverpool RASA and Liverpool Cares. Dance for Plants have also made use of their DJ residencies to directly fund reforestation projects in Scotland through the Future Forest Company, planting around 300 trees with them.

Sam has been making mixes since 2016 and started out just making them for friends and family and was inspired by this to launch his Chamomile Tea Mix series. Each week he invites DJ’s and artists to make a chamomile tea mix of their own.

The mixes are available on a site called MixCloud as well as the full track list and bio about the artist available on the Dance for Plants Instagram (@Dance4PlantsLiverpool).

Sam said: “It’s been great how big the response has been, I put out an add for the mixes on Instagram and I had to close it within 24 hours because it had so many responses.

“It’s been something people have really wanted to get on board with which is really nice. I had to stop taking submissions because we had enough people to last the next six months.”

The mixes have had a range of artists so far such as the likes of Dansein- a jazz and hip hop DJ, Josie Bee, Adam Constantine and most recently Snoodman Deejay, with new mixes available every Friday.

Sam said: “With regards to listeners it’s started out pretty small but its growing each time. It’s a way that people can explore a different side of music that they don’t normally get to.”

Sam has lots in the pipeline for Dance for Plants this year, one being DJing for a new alcohol free bar in Liverpool called SipSin.
