Liverpool’s annual Africa Oye festival has announced that they will be playing host to Bob Marley’s son as the first acts of the line-up are revealed.

Julian Marley will be taking to the stage in Liverpool this June to celebrate African culture.

Although he is known widely for being reggae legend Bob Marley’s ninth son, he has become a star in his own right and won reggae album of the year at the 2024 Grammys.

In the same way as his late father, Julian is a Rastafarian whose music is inspired by life and spirituality.

The reggae star has been announced alongside female supergroup Les Amazones D’Afrique as the two headline acts for the weekend.

The festival is the UK’s biggest free celebration of African music and culture, and has been taking place in Liverpool since 1992.

The event started as a few gigs around the city and rehomed to Sefton Park in 2002 to cope with demand.

Although many people come for the music they tend to stay for the food and all the other amenities on offer, there are over 90 stall which will be selling the best African, food, drink, arts and crafts and fashion from Africa.

  • Julian Marley will be headlining the Sunday night of the festival on June 23.
