Police are appealing for information after a man was shot in the face in St Helens.

It was reported that a man was injured in a house on Derbyshire Road at 11.55am yesterday.

The man was shot in his face and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

House to house inquiries are taking place and police are still investigating the property where the incident occurred.

Chief Insp Tom Welch said: “This is a complex police investigation, and our officers are still in the very early stages of establishing the circumstances of this incident.

“At this stage of our ongoing investigation we can confirm that a firearm was shot in the area causing a serious facial injury to a man in his 30s.

“Therefore, I would appeal to anyone who lives in the area, that has any information or who has doorbell camera footage that may have captured the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Chief Insp Tom Welch added that information from the public was vital if police were to prevent the use of firearms.

“Our officers remain in the surrounding area of Derbyshire Hill Road and are relentless when stopping the use of any firearms or dangerous weapons in Merseyside,” he said.

  • Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 or go to CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting log 371 of February 19.
