Liverpool’s legendary nightclub Club 051 has finally reopened its doors after 18 years.

The iconic venue at one end of Mount Pleasant has been welcoming back eager dance-lovers with open arms since September.

Club 051 was Liverpool’s hotspot for dance music in the ’90s. However, the doors closed in 2005.

The club has been converted for many uses over the years such as a roller rink and a gym. However both were unsuccessful and eventually the building was left derelict and unusable after fire and water damage.

Ryan Garvey, head of communications at Club 051, saw the new potential of the building and attempted to gain ownership of the space to create the revived 051 we have today.

His team took over the space at the beginning of April last year, and from then until the re-opening in September, Garvey said the team worked “flat out, practically seven days a week”.

The condition of the building was progressively getting worse.

Garvey told MerseyNewsLive: “It was now or never to take over the club as it was close to a point where the building was unsalvageable.”

Club 051 aims to become Liverpool’s “super club”, with the club being the biggest in Liverpool, holding a maximum capacity of 2,500.

Stepping inside the refurbished Club 051 is like entering a ’90s dance den with a modern-stylish interior, complete with Versace toilets imported from Italy.

New seating booths have also been added however the original, iconic glitter ball remains centre stage hanging above the dance floor.

Fortunately, Garvey and the team’s efforts paid off, with Club 051 scheduling a multitude of events for all dance music lovers.
