Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy used her annual lecture at Liverpool John Moores University to praise her officers as they worked to police a modern diverse community.
She said the calls for Back to Basics policing had to be tempered with new approaches to challenging and complex issues.
Serena Kennedy and her senior colleagues emphasised the force’s commitment to protecting the vulnerable.
