Merseyside dominated non-league football at the weekend, winning four out of five games across the Northern Premier League.

Francis Smith shone for Prescot Cables scoring a remarkable free-kick in an emphatic 2-0 win over Leek Town. The Merseyside team have now entered the top half of the table, hoping to progress in their next league fixture away to Worksop on Tuesday.

Widnes have also moved up the league table to third, following a 4-0 victory away to Stafford Rangers.

Widnes striker James Steele scored a perfect hat-trick to secure all three points away from home – Adam Bott also scored his first goal for his new club after signing on loan from Chester until January.

Vauxhall Motors joined Liverpool at top of their league after a 3-1 away win to regional rivals City of Liverpool FC. Goals from Jawad Jebrin, Nick Rushton and Jordan Deer led to a comfortable victory away from home.

Mossley conceded away to Runcorn Linnets after a 4-1 defeat. Luke Wall shone after a free-kick goal in the first minute of the match to put Runcorn 1-0 ahead. The in-form striker was also announced player of the month, voted by the fans.

Finally, Jimmy Bell the new Clitheroe manager has continued in successful form after a 5-3 win against top of the table Bootle. Goals from Charlie Hayes-Green, a penalty from Richard Baker, Veron Parny and a double from Sefton Gonzales to secure his 100th goal for the club.

Clitheroe have now moved into seventh place, just five points from the league leaders.
