People living in the six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral and Halton), have a choice of five candidates to vote for their next mayor on May 2. Here’s everything you need to know about Tom Crone.

Leader of Liverpool City Council’s Green Party group, Cllr Tom Crone, will be on the mayoral ballot paper on May 2.

As polling day looms, his campaign has outlined his vision for the city.

A passionate advocate for greater public investment, Cllr Crone plans to improve home insulation and development in renewable energy.

He hopes that this will reduce fuel poverty whilst improving health and move Liverpool closer to a greener future.

Public transport services will also be a priority, with a more joined-up network across the region.

Specific measures he has proposed include more priority for buses on roads, as well as measures designed to encourage walking and cycling, such as more segregated cycle routes.

Another measure the Green Party candidate proposes is an increase in urban tree planting.

He promises that he will move the city away from party “cronyism” and political “incompetence”.

By working closely with communities, campaign groups and trade unions he hopes to bring more voices into politics. Another way in which he plans to do this is with the introduction of a citizens assembly.
