Aintree half marathon

Aintree Racecourse, best known for annually holding the world famous Grand National steeplechase, is set to host a half marathon on Sunday.

Alongside the half-marathon, runners have the opportunity to do either a 5k or a 10k. Many runners taking part in the event will run for a charity, and Liverpool’s much-loved Alder Hey Children’s Charity is appealing for more  supporters.

Lily Fox, community fundraiser assistant at Alder Hey, said: “This is one of our least popular events at the moment but these events are really important for Alder Hey.

“We treat over 330,000 patients every year and through these events we are able raise vital funds that go towards making Alder Hey such a well-loved hospital.”

Alder Hey is one of the biggest and busiest hospitals in Europe dedicated to helping the lives of children in need, whether that be a common illness or highly complex and specialist conditions.

Alder Hey have a partnership with BTR, the half-marathon organisers. As part of this partnership, the hospital gets access to BTR events across the year allowing them to gain exposure and sponsorship opportunities.

The funds raised will go towards funding equipment, research projects, their innovation hub and the magic which consists of anything from the chefs located on the wards to arts and music projects which help make hospital trips brighter for their patients.

“All the money raised from different challenge events always go back into the hospital in order to help improve what we’re able to offer above NHS standards,” Lily added.

There is an entry fee for runners but as part of Alder Hey’s BTR partnership they are offering free entry if participants are able to raise a minimum of £100 for the charity. Runners will also get a themed medal, refreshments and post race goodies.
