Wirral Council has launched 28 Emergency Help Points throughout the borough to improve safety on the streets by linking people directly to its CCTV control centre.

The points can be identified by distinctive yellow signage.

A red button links to the CCTV control centre where an operator can talk to people who need help, provide reassurance and arrange for them to be assisted by emergency services, if necessary.

Mike Redfern, 54, a Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Oxton Ward, said that Wirral Council introduced the Emergency Help Points because they are trying to improve the safety of residents when out and about the streets.

He said: “They have been introduced into areas of high footfall, particularly where there have been instances of anti-social behaviour.”
