A mobile service delivering cervical cancer screenings across Merseyside and Cheshire has reached a landmark 2000 tests.
The Living Well Service, which is provided by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, began providing cervical screenings in July 2024.
This was originally piloted in Sefton, before being expanded to the whole of Cheshire and Merseyside, following its success.
The screenings are just one of many services on offer from the specially designed buses, which travel around the North West providing vaccinations, health checks, and wellbeing support.
Cervical screenings are offered to women and individuals with a cervix, who are aged between 25 and 64, as a method of prevention for cervical cancer.
Geraldine Marsh, Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Operations Manager, said: “It is a huge testament to the work of the team to see how many people have turned up to our clinics to get checked.
“We make a huge amount of effort to ensure our service is as welcoming, compassionate and, above all, as safe as it can possibly be.”
The mobile service is seen as a way of encouraging more people to be checked, through offering walk-in appointments and bringing the tests directly into the community.
The NHS has set a target of eliminating cervical cancer entirely by 2040.
Dr Sinead Clarke, Associate Medical Director for Quality and System Improvement for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICB, said: “Reaching 2,000 cervical screenings through the Living Well Service is a major milestone – and clear evidence that bringing healthcare directly into our communities works.
“By making screenings accessible, in places where people live or work, we’re reaching people who might otherwise postpone or avoid this vital test.”
