Sefton Council is being urged to step-up its efforts to tackle fly-tipping in Bootle as frustrated residents say they’ve had enough.
Business owners in the area around Orrell Mount Industrial Estate have expressed their anger at persistent fly-tipping in the area, with some claiming the ongoing issues are impacting their premises on the industrial estate.
Photos showing huge piles of household waste, bin bags and cardboard show the extent of the problem at the site, with community social media groups used to share images of the town’s fly-tipping problem.
Sefton Council said that it will continue to investigate fly-tipping at Orrell Mount Industrial Estate and clear rubbish dumped there.
Faced with persistent fly-tipping problems, some residents have taken matters into their own hands by setting up community groups which they hope can put pressure on the council to do more.
Michael Brennan set up Bootle Community Action group 10 years ago. The group aims to help tackle the issue of fly-tipping by working with the community on projects including the creation of community gardens in areas previously used for fly tipping.
I spoke with Michael about the current state of the problem.
