A youth service in Liverpool has been providing food to homeless people in the city.
Feed the Faith youth service was an event organised by Fady Armanyous, 23, and Daniel Fahmy, 21 that saw volunteers hand out food parcels on Thursday, October 9.
The pair are members of St. Mary and St. Cyril, a Coptic Orthodox Church which is based in Liverpool and consists mainly of an Arabic and Ethiopian community.
Fady and Daniel are members of the church’s youth service which regularly organise programmes and events in the city centre.

The youth service tries to organise this programme every month, where they will go out as a community and give packed bags of food to homeless people in Liverpool.
These bags contain sandwiches of either ham and cheese or chicken, various snacks, an apple, bottled water and a bible verse.
The youth service uses their own resources to buy and assemble the food and bags before distributing them. On this occasion, they managed to assemble twenty-five bags.
Fady explained why this programme was so important. He said: “At the bare minimum, it gives someone food, it gives someone a reason to smile.

“Maybe someone is having a rough day and they’re not aware of it, or we’re not aware of it but God sent us lowkey without us realising, so maybe we could affect a life, even if it’s one percent it’s a win for us.”
Daniel added that this was about distributing food and faith to the homeless and seeing what their idea of Jesus and God is.
The group includes a different bible verse in the bags each time they do this. This time the verse read: “Fear not for I am your God, and I am with you.”
Daniel said: “I feel like it really relates to what people need to hear and sometimes it’s like God’s message to everyone and it’s really touching for most people.”
Fady added: “Maybe someone could take comfort in seeing a little verse, maybe they were going through a really rough time and then they see a very nice verse and they’re like ‘oh I needed to hear that today’. We’ve had that feedback actually, a couple of times in the past.

“In any way shape or form if we make a person one percent happier or feeling more reassured or closer to God or anything at all, then that’s a massive win for us.”
Regarding the organisation of the service, Daniel discussed how the hardest part was reaching out to the youth and making sure they could attend. He explained that once people show up, “It’s honestly a piece of cake.”
Both Daniel and Fady agreed that it was a massive success with a great turnout. Daniel said that he could really see this programme going places and affecting a lot of people with Fady adding: “Hopefully, we get more blessings and all of us just keep improving.”
As more than 1,700 households in Liverpool were in temporary accommodation as of July 2025, ongoing voluntary services such as this one, grow in importance.

To be legally homeless, you must be evicted, unable to stay in your home, or were forced to leave for your safety. The eligibility differs depending on whether you are an EU citizen. To check if you qualify for the helpline, you can follow the link below.
