Nothing screams romance like a trip to the theatre with your other half.
If you are looking for a special place to take your Valentine over this loved-up season, look no further than the theatres of Liverpool where we have whittled down the top 5 shows over the week.
Russian State Ballet of Siberia
Oozing in old-fashioned romance and class, a performance from the Russian State Ballet of Siberia is a way to woo your other half. Liverpool Empire Theatre is showcasing three different performances from the world famous group from February 14-16.
Kicking off the three-day Ballet takeover is the Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet. This is followed by the Snow Maiden, whereby the lead dances her way into the human world after being protected by her father from the outside world. Finally, the well-loved Swan Lake graces the stage on February 16, telling the story of tragic romance (hopefully not a reflection of your date night). Tickets start from £13.
Chicago
If you are fancying something slightly more ‘razzle-dazzle’ for Valentines, then Chicago at the Empire Theatre should tickle your fancy.
Taking over the theatre from February 10-12, this performance focuses on the story of Roxie Hart who murders her on the side lover. She tries to transform her crime into headlines all from inside her prison cell.
Tickets are available here and start from just £13. Who said you have to spend a fortune for Valentines?
Gary Barlow – A Different Stage
Is your other half (or yourself) a Gary Barlow super fan? If so, then ‘Gary Barlow – A Different Stage’ will provide you with a taste of all things Gary.
The show has been hailed as “a show of firsts” by Gary himself. From his keyboard playing to general talks with the audience, the show has been 4 years in the making. The show will run from February 10-15 at The Brindley in Runcorn where tickets start from £38.50.
Black is the color of my voice
Carrying on with the musical theme, a show based on the life of the sensational Nina Simone, ‘Black is the color of my voice’, provides audiences with an insight into the Jazz singer and civil rights activist’s life. The show runs for two nights at the Everyman Theatre, from February 11-12, and tickets start from only £20.
A Very Liverpool Love Story
For a truly love-focused Valentine’s eve show, ‘A Very Liverpool Love Story’, provides a story of love and loss and the grief that follows. The show focuses on the reflections of late activist and poet Sandra Richardson and her wife, Clare Beloved. All the profits from the play, which takes place at the Epstein Theatre on February 13, will go to the Liverpool hospice. Tickets are available from just £18.50.
