A man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder after a 54-year-old who was attacked in a fish and chip shop passed away.

The victim, who has been named as Carl Ennis, from Stockbridge Village, was assaulted at The Village Chippy in Stockbridge Village on Friday 17 April at 7.30pm. He was taken to hospital but later died.

A 25-year old man was initially arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent. The same man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this tragic time.

“I know people living in the local community will be understandably upset and concerned, but I want them to be reassured that we are thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
