Students have traded nights out for an afternoon of creativity called Paint a Tote Bag.

Students at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) were asked to create and decorate tote bags for a small donation at this week’s campus event to raise money for Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Claire House offers specialised care and emotional support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families throughout Merseyside and Cheshire.

The event, which was organised by a group of third-year students, provided a different choice of what to do with their time rather than the usual “going-out” aspects of university life.

The organisers stated that while still offering a fun social experience, they want to inspire students to participate in more thoughtful and community-focused activities.

The money generated from the event will help provide children and their families with critical medical treatment, respite services, and emotional support.

The Paint a Tote Bag fundraiser’s success has inspired planners to organise further activities of a similar nature throughout the academic year.

It has given students an opportunity to speak to new people, socialise and do something good for the local community.

The students organising the event intend to show that giving back to the community can be just as fulfilling as any typical night on the town, by swapping an afternoon of art for a night out.
