Liverpool John Lennon Airport has announced that easyJet has added a new route.
Almeria, a city in southeast of Spain, has distinctive architecture and luscious beaches. The flight route isn’t the only connection the two cities have.
John Lennon flew to Almeria in September 1966 to film ‘How I Won the War’. Whilst being in the city, the Beatle composed the first version of the song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’.
Lennon was staying in a mansion in Santa Isabel. What surrounded the musician were gardens and gates that reminded him of Strawberry Fields. This is said to have inspired the him as it brought back memories of the Salvation Army’s Children Home in Walton.
The connection between the two cities attracts Lennon and Beatles fans from right across the globe as the new route can take tourists through the journey that John Lennon made.
EasyJet flight attendant who is based at the airport, Ella Boyle has said, “It is going to be a very popular destination for travellers across the north and the northwest. I’m very excited to be on this new route with easyJet and can’t wait to take people to the southern part of Spain where they may have never been before”.
EasyJet flights between Liverpool and Almería will operate every Tuesday and Saturday.
