Kim Johnson, the Liverpool Riverside Labour MP, has taken to social media to back the National Education Union’s (NEU) “No Child Left Behind” campaign.

The scheme, which aims to see ‘Free School Meals for All’ introduced across England, was on the agenda at the Labour Party Conference.

The Liverpool MP presented a similar scheme to Parliament a few years ago, which led to the implementation of Free School Meals for those on Universal credit.

The Union’s work has not stopped there though, with pupils from Merseyside taking to the docks this morning to hand leaflets out to delegates attending the conference.

Ms Johnson said: “I am really pleased that their campaign [NEU] has had the traction for the Government to increase free school meals but I am still pushing for, and the Union is still pushing for, universal free school meals.”

She continued: “I was here last year with a number of schools that had a postcard campaign that wrote to the prime minister as to why all students should have free school meals. I gave those postcards to the prime minister last year and I must say it got a lack-lustre response.”

The union hope that this time, with the students able to give their insights in-person, the outcome will be different.
