A specialist school in Woolton has been named Silver Award Winner for ‘SEND and Inclusive Practice’ at the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Abbot’s Lea School focuses on delivering high quality, specialist education for students aged between 3-19 living with autism and other needs. This award from the Pearsons National Teaching Awards is in recognition of the school’s commitment to delivering personalised learning experiences that meet the needs of all pupils to support them in reaching their full potential.
By winning the Silver Award, this will now give the school the chance to win the highly sought-after, esteemed Gold Award – announced on the BBC The One Show later this year.
Alongside the school being awarded as a whole, three staff members from the support team at Abbot’s Lea School also got recognised and awarded individually.
The staff members include Clare Edwards, a higher-level teaching assistant, who won the Bronze Award for ‘Teaching Assistant of the Year’, alongside her colleagues Donal McGrath and Demi Lea – who are also higher-level teaching assistants – being named as national finalists in the same category.
Headteacher Ania Hildrey said: “I am incredibly proud of our team, from teachers and class-based support staff, through our multi-disciplinary team of safeguarding and therapeutic specialists, to our phenomenal business support team – we all share one vision: to be the centre of excellence in autism education, research and professional development, in order to create the best specialist education in the world for our wonderful students!”
