The Walton community has come together to restore their local bowling club after acts of vandalism.

Walton Hall Bowing Club was targeted three times over the weekend.

John Rodgers, secretary of the Walton Hall Bowling Club, said: “It was broken into on Sunday night and the damage was minimal.

“We secured the main door and entrance gate on Monday, only to get a call this morning to say they had got in again.”

This time the club, which has been around for 60 years, had toilets smashed to pieces, two winners plaques that dated back to 1965 torn down, as well as crockery and chairs thrown and discarded across the club.

A GoFundMe page has since been set up in support of the bowling club and has already raised nearly £650 of their £1,000 goal.

Mr Rodgers added: “I just can’t understand the mentality of the people do this and what they get out of it.

“What annoys me most is, the people who have done this probably have grandparents who may have used bowling facilities themselves in the past.”

Mr Rodgers has since met with Merseyside Police, the city council, local councillor Bev Kenyon and Bowls For Health in the hope of putting an end to these kind of incidents.

Merseyside police are appealing for information over the vandalism.
