In just two days, the people of Chester will vote for their new MP to replace Labour’s Chris Matheson, who resigned after facing two sexual misconduct allegations in October.

There are nine candidates and each one has delivered a 100-word pitch detailing what they intend to do for the city and its residents.

As well as Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem and Green being parties represented, candidates representing UKIP, Rejoin EU, Reform UK, Freedom Alliance and the Monster Raving Loony Party are also standing.

The CheshireLive website has invited all nine candidates to a husting event tomorrow which will be broadcast via Facebook live at midday.

Residents will be able to cast their votes from 7am–10pm on Thursday December 1.

The by-election will be the first major test of public opinion since the change in the Conservative leadership which saw Liz Truss replaced as Prime Minister by Rishi Runak.
