A musical extravaganza about rock’n’roll legend Buddy Holly is coming to Liverpool this month.
Buddy Holly Lives: The Music Never Died is written and performed by the city’s own Asa Murphy. The show celebrates 1950s rock’n’roller Buddy, famous for hits such as That’ll Be The Day.
The musical tours the North West later this month, stopping in Liverpool, St Helen’s, Coventry and Ulverston, with a date in Blackpool also being confirmed for July.
The show casts a spotlight on the 70 years of remarkable music left behind by Buddy, whose meteoric career was cut short at 22 in a fatal plane crash.
Expect to be taken back to the good old days with Buddy’s hits such as Peggy Sue, Rave On, Raining In My Heart and That’ll Be The Day, with historical visual and audio material from the singer’s career.
Asa Murphy, playing Buddy, will be performing with the Buddy Rock N Roll Band, Leslie Butler and Ronnie Orr.
Asa has 18 years of entertainment experience, and is a presenter on BBC Radio Merseyside. This is Asa’s third hit show, following Mack The Knife and Irish Annies.
Bill Elms Productions co-produced the musical, a company responsible for successful shows such as Jerry Springer: The Opera and Swan Song.
Bill described Asa as a “consummate professional”, promising that “audiences are in for a treat”.
Asa added: “Writing this musical has been a real labour of love for me as I have been raised with the timeless music of Buddy Holly, and to see the audience’s reaction to the show, dancing and singing in the theatres has been one of the highlights of my career.”
