Labour and Reform are the only parties with the full three candidates for each ward in Sefton in the upcoming elections, Mersey News Live analysis reports.
The rise in Reform presence indicates their position as the primary opposition to Labour in this region.
Reform’s popularity raises questions regarding how the electorate intends to vote in the upcoming elections, particularly in the Sefton Borough, which has been firmly Labour-held for 12 years.
The local elections are on Thursday, 7th May 2026.
Labour is defending 2,557 seats in these elections, with 66 of those being in the Sefton Borough.
An estimate published by Lord Robert Hayward yesterday predicted a loss of 1,850 Labour seats.
The predictions also show an estimated 1,550 seat gain for Reform UK, who currently have 2 sitting councillors in Sefton.
Labour candidate Anthony Howe provided comment on the condition of the Labour-led councils, in light of this revelation: “I think we’ve got a record to be proud of, especially here in Sefton, where I’m standing.
“I can attest to the good work that a Labour-led Sefton council has done.”
Sefton borough is having an all-out election, with all 66 seats up for grabs. The borough is divided into 22 wards, with three seats per ward available.
