The assault took place at approximately 1.30am on the 2nd of February when a man was waiting for a taxi on Fleet Street.

The victim sustained injuries to his head and face after being approached by another man who punched him, before walking off with a white woman who had brown hair and was wearing a white gold short dress.

The victim was taken to hospital after he suffered a fractured jaw that required surgery.

Detective Inspector Natalie Charlesworth said: “This was a violent and unprovoked assault on a young man in our city centre. We are committed to finding who was responsible and bringing them to justice so we can ensure the safety of anyone who visits our city centre.

“I am appealing to find the man shown in this CCTV image, or anyone who recognises him to come forward as we believe they could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries. Although the image is not clear, I would encourage you to focus on the clothing and the physical appearance of the man.

“Similarly, if you were on Fleet Street at the time of the incident and saw what happened please contact police as soon as possible.

“I would also ask any drivers who were in the area to check their dashcams from 1.30am on Monday 2 February to see if they captured anything significant.

“While some weeks have passed since the incident, any information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC on X, call 101, quoting reference 26000093352.
