Starting at the museum, the trail focuses on locations around Liverpool associated with the city’s rich history of Jewish culture.

These include the beautiful tiles from Galkoff’s, a Jewish-owned Kosher butcher shop that closed in the 1970s, institutions like the Athanaeum, places of worship, and businesses like Lewis’s.

Through working closely with Liverpool’s Jewish community leaders, the Museum of Liverpool heritage trail looks at the Jewish community’s importance in Liverpool’s vast history and how members have formed a part of day-to-day Liverpool life for centuries.

Head of Museum of Liverpool, Liz Stewart, said: “Liverpool has one of the oldest Jewish communities in Britain, so we are delighted to see our Jewish heritage trail included in this year’s Jewish Culture Month.”

Jewish Culture Month is a project of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the national representative body of the UK Jewish community.

The month of celebrations takes place across the UK from Saturday, the 16th of May, until Tuesday, the 16th of June.

The celebrations are inclusive and focus on a range of themes, including British Jewish contributions to music, literature, food, history, fashion, architecture, and comedy.

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom, Lisa Nandy MP, said: “I’m really pleased to support the first UK Jewish Culture Month and look forward to its success among people of all faiths and communities.”
