Global Scouse Day is this Saturday.

The annual celebration is focused on the stew, which is synonymous with Liverpool.

It also celebrates the city’s culture and raises money for local charities, such as The Whitechapel Centre, homeless and housing charity in Liverpool, which assists people in finding homes and learning valuable life skills.

Global Scouse Day started as a meet-up amongst friends, but since 2008 it has grown every year.

Many venues will be serving scouse on the day. Cafes such as Skaus and Peaberry Coffee House and Kitchen will be offering their version of the dish.

Scouse, typically made with meat, potatoes, and vegetables, was originally known as “lobscouse”. The first known use of the term was in 1706.

Originally intended as a dish to use leftovers, it is now strongly associated with the city. The name “scousers” is now used to describe people from Liverpool, due to the dish.

Over 100 venues will be joining in this Global Scouse Day, with hopes that this will be the biggest one yet.
