Police are appealing for information after a man died in Maghull after being hit by a car. Emergency services were called to Eastway in Maghull around 7.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 10th February), following reports of an accident involving a black Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit. He has been described as a 31-year-old man from Fazakerley and remains in police custody to be interviewed.

Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were all in attendance at the scene last night.

At the time of the incident, the police said the pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. As of this morning (Wed), the police have confirmed the man died at the scene.

Merseyside Police are still making enquiries to locate and inform the man’s next of kin.

Eastway was closed near Maghull shops following the accident and traffic diversions put in place. Emergency services reopened the road around 2:50am and are continuing their enquiries in the local area.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said: “Although someone has been arrested, we continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward and help us establish the full circumstances of this incident.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on Eastway, near to The Frank Hornby Wetherspoon pub, at around 7.20pm. If your vehicle is fitted with a dash camera, then please get in touch so that we can check if it has captured something you may be unaware is of importance to our enquiries.”
