Liverpool Friends of Palestine (LFP) is urging people to continue to support their cause despite the ceasefire in Gaza, arguing that the fight for a just peace is far from over.

LFP embarked on their second march of the New Year at the weekend to demonstrate what they see as continued injustices towards Palestinians.

Piaria Mia, a member of Your Party Merseyside, said at the march that the UK authorities have been complicit in injustices committed by Israel in Gaza. She said: “The Government actually needs to surrender themselves to the authorities. They have been participants in a war crime, many war crimes, and I’m completely ashamed of them.”

LFP is a locally-based support group that campaigns for the justice of the Palestinian people, organising street events, public meetings, and fundraisers in solidarity.

On Sunday, hundreds gathered at the Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral for the group’s usual march down to Derby Square, where speeches were given on settler violence in the West Bank, Merseyside Pension Fund investments, and the latest on the US plans for Gaza.

In recent months the march, which was previously held weekly, has moved to being held on the first Sunday of every month.

Ms Mia added: “The money being spent on wars now is the money not being spent on the NHS, housing, and welfare, all that kind of stuff, and people do need to realise that we won’t be free until Palestine is free. It’s all connected.”
