Liverpool John Lennon has announced that 2025 was the airports busiest year in its 92-year history.

More than 5.6 million passengers travelled through the airport, overtaking the last record set in 2007 and marking a huge milestone for the airport.

Liverpool John Lennon originally named “Speke Airport” officially opened on July 1st, 1933, making it one of the UK’s oldest airports.

After John Lennon’s death in 2001 the airport was renamed to honour The Beatles star.

An airport spokesperson said: “A huge thank you goes to all our passengers for helping make 2025 our best year ever- and here’s to 2026.”

They look forward to welcoming even more passengers in 2026.
