Liverpool City Council is once again urging people with real Christmas trees to make sure they get rid of them the right way.

There are thirteen drop off points across the city where people can leave their trees that shut on Friday 23rd January.

After recycling 70 tonnes of Christmas trees last year, Liverpool City Council again rolled out the scheme to help people dispose of their real trees properly.

Councillor for Gateacre Kris Brown spoke on how the recycled trees are used once they’re collected:

“A lot of the Christmas trees that we collect are turned into a natural resource for our parks and green spaces, they’re collected and then broken down into mulch and fertiliser.”

Councillor Brown also talked about how the trees were used in the wider Liverpool region:

“We’ve got Sefton that uses the trees for sand dunes and cedar fences which create more natural deterrents for an increased risk of flooding.”

Councillor for Arundel, Laura Robertson-Collins also commented on the council’s use of the recycled trees: “We keep a big heap of chippings and use them throughout the year so it’s a really direct way of recycling.”

The success of the scheme in years prior has led Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins to believe it will see the same levels of use this year and whether the council will carry it on in future years: “It’s very popular and people are happy to use it but it has always been a popular service.

“As long as people are buying real Christmas trees then we need to deal with them, otherwise they’d be lying around in alleyways and bins.”

The full list of drop off locations can be seen on the Liverpool City Council website.
