Filming for the much-loved Liverpool based series ‘This City Is Ours’ was spotted at the White Hart pub on Hope Street this morning as a producer on the show told Mersey News Live that the new season will “pick up” where the last episode left off.
It is understood that the show is filming six-and-a-half pages of script at the pub with two of the shows characters inside the venue. Today’s filming is expected to finish at 7:30pm.
Nathan Juckes, a producer on the show, said: “We’re trying to do on this series is show as much of Liverpool as we can and not just areas that everybody is familiar with.” He added: “We looked at an awful lot of pubs before we settled on this one, it just has a really great look to it and that’s what we were after.”
Many of the locations that are being used in the second season won’t have been seen in season one. Mr Juckes said this is to show parts of Liverpool that may not get as much attention as the popular locations within the city.

Although This City is Ours is a crime drama, he said, that that by filming in locations that don’t normally feature in TV depictions of Liverpool, it “shows Liverpool in a great light and the city has really taken to it.”
He explained: “It’s very much picking up were we left off in season one, its almost straight away in terms of story. It’s very much continuing with the Michael and Diana arc in season one. The new characters I can’t give too much away about the way they come into play in season two.”
Season one received lots of praise from critics and viewers for it cinematography. Because of this, the team have decided to stick with the same look. Mr Juckes said: “We had a handheld look to it last year, we’ve stuck with that, it was a real success people loved how the show looked so we brought back pretty much the exact same crew as last time everybody was very excited to join again for season two especially because it was a success were all very proud of it.”
Filming so far has gone smoothly according to the producer they started filming in October and expect to be done this March. The recent snowfall caused concerns for the crew for their filming today, Mr Juckes added: “The show is set in the end of autumn, so it was going to be a real worry if there were snow and ice everywhere, so we’ve got lucky today that it’s all gone and we weren’t filming yesterday so we’ve gotten away with it.”
Not only do productions like this provide us with great entertainment, but there are also many great benefits brought to the city of Liverpool itself. The first season boosted the Liverpool City region economy by £9 million, according to the Liverpool Film Office.
F
or every £1 of public funding invested through the Liverpool City Region’s production fund, the region got nearly £20 back in local spend from the production, it said.
The filming of This City is Ours has not only helped financially but has also opened the door to other major productions to be filmed in Liverpool.
Steve Rotheram the Mayor of the Liverpool City Region said: “By backing projects like This City Is Ours, alongside the world-class talent and infrastructure we’ve got here, we’re making sure our region isn’t just part of the conversation—we’re leading it by working to cement the region as the ‘Hollywood of the North’.”
