A group of volunteers have launched this year’s Santa Sleigh experience for children across Merseyside.

Each year, North Wirral Round Table brings Santa to the streets of Greasby, Hoylake, Meols, Wallasey, West Kirby and the surrounding areas – spreading joy, raising funds for good causes, and lighting up the faces of young children.

This cherished tradition will run until Sunday, December 21, with weekday routes operating from 6pm to 8pm and weekend routes from 4pm to 8pm.

Families will be able to step outside their homes to hear the music, see the lights and wave to Santa as the sleigh makes its way through their neighbourhoods, gifting the children small festive treats.

The event is powered entirely by volunteers, who dedicate a significant amount of time to planning routes and ensuring the experience is magical for every child who comes out to see Santa.

North Wirral Round Table volunteer Liam Hayward said: “We’ve had some really magical moments. It’s nice to see your hard work paying off.

“It’s a good atmosphere – everyone’s excited for Christmas. They just have fun, and people get really involved.”

Liam added: “Year on year we try to level it up. This year we’re introducing a new character – the Grinch – which we’re hoping to utilise quite a bit.

“We’ve even got a professional singer on one of the routes who will be performing at some of the stop-offs.”

Their efforts go far beyond festive cheer – each year, the Santa Sleigh raises vital funds for local causes, helping support and strengthen the community.

One of the organisations benefitting from the donations is The Positivitree charity, an organisation that supports the mental wellbeing and offers practical help to families or carers whose children with additional care needs.

Staff say that being away from home is incredibly distressing — and even more so during the Christmas period.

Liam Comer Service Lead at The Positivitree said: “We want to give a huge thank you to the amazing team and the North Wirral Round Table for kindly donating £2,500 towards our Christmas Meals Project.”

The donation will allow them to work alongside Can Cook Well-Fed to provide nutritious, home-style Christmas dinners for families staying at their two local houses – Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park and Ronald McDonald House Alder Hey.

He continued: “This will be our sixth year delivering these meals, a tradition that means so much to our team. Many of us know first-hand how tough hospital stays can be, especially at Christmas.

“These meals are our way of letting families know that they’re not forgotten, and that a little bit of festive warmth and care is being sent their way.”

If any of the original £2,500 remains, the surplus is used to create comfort baskets containing gift sets, toiletries and other essentials for families in hospital.

The North Wirral Round Table itself is made up of a group of young men aged 18–45 who are committed to giving back.

Their work during the festive season is one of the group’s biggest annual projects, and the team takes pride in creating unforgettable moments for families across the Wirral.
