A Liverpool man has been jailed after stealing a car which then collided head on with another car causing serious injuries to its driver.

Liverpool Crown Court was told that in September last year, 53-year-old Brian Thompson, broke into a house in the early hours of the morning and stole the keys to a Volvo V40.

The Fazakerley man drove off in the stolen car and a few hours later crashed into two cars in Bootle, which resulted in one driver sustaining whiplash, broken ribs and fractured spine as a result of the head on collision.

Thompson pleaded guilty at an earlier court hearing at Liverpool Crown Court and was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison, alongside a 3 years and 10 months driving ban.

Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke said: “Thompson’s actions that day affected the lives of people, as not only did he break into someone’s home but caused serious injuries to two people on the road with his reckless and dangerous driving.”

He also said: “Thankfully he is now behind bars for his actions, and I hope he uses the time to reflect on the devastation he has caused”

“We will continue to work proactively with communities and our partners to keep this progress going.”
