A man said he feels fortunate to be alive after he was injured in a collision while riding an electric scooter in Liverpool.

Davey Muldoon sustained serious injuries after being knocked off a Voi scooter following the Liverpool vs Aston Villa match earlier this month.

The incident occurred on Walton Breck Road, near it’s junction with Miriam Road, close to Anfield stadium.

The driver of the car involved stopped at the scene and assisted officers with enquiries. Police, at the time, made an appeal for witnesses.

Muldoon said: ”I have two broken bones in my right knee, I’ve had to have an operation to rebuild my knee with metal plates.

“I’m going to be out of action for at least six months, maybe twelve”

Since 2020 when e-scooters were introduced onto the roads, the rise in accidents have risen by thousands, according to gov.uk.

However, the rise in popularity for these scooters has also risen.

Rental e-scooters can be used on public roads, some cycle lanes, and other public spaces.

But you must follow the relevant road traffic laws, in the 1988 road traffic act. If you don’t, you could face prosecution.

Voi scooters are the current operator in the Liverpool city region. While a helmet is not legally mandatory, they do recommend you wear one for safety. They also require a valid driving license and to use only approved roads and cycle lanes.

A new scooter provider has been announced in Liverpool, with Bolt scooters taking over the current company Voi.

The change will see hundreds more of these vehicles on the roads. From February, the service will see 2,000 scooters which will now operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will be covering the entire city.
