A new exhibition is hoping to offer a fresh perspective on JMW Turner and his legacy.
The exhibition titled ‘Turner: Always Contemporary’ hopes to highlight the enduring impact the British artist has had to mark 250 years since his birth.
The exhibition, which will be at the Liverpool Walker Art Gallery from October 25 to February 22, will feature National Museum Liverpool’s large collection of Turner oil paintings as well loaned works.
Works on print and paper will also feature, alongside modern and contemporary pieces that Turner’s work has inspired.
Dr Melissa Gustin Curator of British Art at National Museums Liverpool said: “I want people to take away that even though a lot of these works were painted or made in the later 18th century or early 19th centaury that they have a lot to say about the world we live in today in different ways.

“It’s not just that the paintings are really good but it’s about how the past has shaped the present today.”
Turner’s works explore themes which are still prevalent in today’s society such as immigration, climate change and tourism.
Works by Claude Monet, Damien Hurst, Jeff Koons along many other artists will feature bringing together 250 years of artworks which ‘stand the tests of time’.
