Students across Liverpool are being urged to take precautions whilst travelling to and from University as the darker days are approaching.

Just this year, Liverpool John Moores University brought in the SafeZone app which allows students to quickly and efficiently contact campus services and security 24/7.

Students can share their location in emergencies, access wellbeing support, non-urgent help and even first-aid.

Etienne Lewis-Jarvis is the LJMU’s Vice President Community and Wellbeing Officer for 2025-2026.

Etienne spoke to MerseyNewsLive about what it means for the students at the University.

She said: “The tools are a wider effort to ensure that students feel safe and supported, especially during the darker months.”

Etienne also highlighted improvement to the LJMU’s Report and Support platform for sexual misconduct.

The enhanced system allows students to report incidents anonymously or with their names in so they can access support if they are open to it.

Students across the university are strongly encouraged to make use of these tools and remain vigilant during their daily commute.

Liverpool John Moores students and staff can download the SafeZone app on Google Play and the App Store for free.
