Dua Lipa kicked off her first show at Anfield Stadium last night as part of her ‘Radical Optimism Tour’, with another headline concert tonight (Wednesday).
Lipa had two opening acts, Dove Cameron and Alessi Rose, who helped warm up the crowd before the main event. They are also scheduled to perform at the stadium again this evening.
Last night’s performance has been described online by fans as ‘incredible’ as Lipa sang through her hits, including the well-loved smash ‘One Kiss’. Liverpool FC fans in particular have a special connection to this song – the stadium erupted with joy when the track began. Lipa performed the song at the 2018 Champions League final when the club were in the running to win the trophy.
For every headline show Lipa has performed on her current UK leg of her ‘Radical Optimism Tour’, she has brought out special guests to perform with her. During her back-to-back sold out shows at Wembley Stadium, she brought out Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay on the first night to perform his 1996 top 10 hit ‘Virtual Insanity’, and Charli XCX on the second night to perform hit song ‘360’ from Charli XCX’s most recent ‘Brat’ album.
Last night’s surprise guest for the sold-out show was Dave McCabe, the frontman of Liverpool rock band The Zutons. Lipa described McCabe as a ‘Liverpool legend’ as she introduced him to the stage.
The pair then moved on to cover the iconic song ‘Valerie’ by the late Amy Winehouse.
There is speculation surrounding the identity of tonight’s surprise guest. While there is no confirmation surrounding who it could be, there have been theories posted across social media that tonight’s guest could be either Harry Styles or Raye – two incredibly successful and popular British artists.
