Liverpool Hope University has been criticised by the University and College Union (UCU) over proposed job cuts after what they claim is a change in plans surrounding staff and teaching.
The union claims 39 jobs are at risk at the university, including at the School of Education, School of Social Sciences, School of Computer Science and the Environment, School of Health and Sports Sciences and Faculty of Creative Arts and Humanities.
Management at Liverpool Hope University (LHU) has cited a projected operational deficit of £2.2M for the 24/25 financial year – however the union claims there are no financial imperative for the job cuts.
The UCU has also highlighted the impact of these potential job cuts on staff at the university, saying: “Colleagues at Liverpool Hope University are utterly demoralised and feel like they’re being betrayed by the very same institution they loyally dedicated their working lives to over the past few years.
“The uncertainty over job security is having a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of colleagues at risk.”

The UCU have organised a rally to coincide with the Open Day at Liverpool Hope University this Saturday (June 28) at 10am.
The UCU said: “The Open Day rally at LHU will be a supportive one, designed to support the staff working the Open Day and to tell prospective students that Liverpool Hope is a great place to study, but that the institution and the quality of education it provides are being put at risk by the decisions of senior managers to cut jobs. Our message is clear: No staff = no hope!”
The Open Day rally at LHU will be held from 10am on the lawn at the front of the Gateway Building at Hope Park.
MLN has contacted Liverpool Hope University for comment.
