The RSPCA have released a new Christmas advert, based on true events within Merseyside, to help raise more money for animals who are struggling because of the cost of living crisis.

The campaign comes at a critical time for the RSPCA as they expect the crisis will be the worst it has been this winter. With Christmas being right around the corner and a tough time for individuals and families facing rising household bills, the charity are prepared for their emergency line to be busier than ever.

The advert tells the true story of two starving Staffordshire bull terrier-type puppies, Jack and Poppy, who were abandoned by their owners in a filthy flat in Merseyside. A neighbour had reported their suspicions about the abandonment of the puppies and the RSPCA arrived to find Jack and Poppy only hours away from death.

RSPCA Inspector Anthony Joynes, who features in the video, said what he saw when entering the flat was “one of the saddest sights of my career”.

He added: “Sadly now, during the winter months, we see more people financially struggling which leads to more reports like this.”

Fortunately both puppies survived after undergoing emergency veterinary treatment and have since been rehomed with loving families to celebrate Christmas together.

On the work the charity do, Anthony said: “For thousands of terrified and injured animals, we’ll turn the worst suffering into the best Christmas yet – because it will be the one where their lives change forever, and the start of many happier Christmases to come.”

By ‘Joining The Christmas Rescue’ and donating, you will be helping the hardworking staff – rescuers, veterinary teams, branches and many more – to give animals the love and treatment they deserve.
