Detectives investigating a shooting in Toxteth have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of carrying a firearm.

The arrested man has been taken to hospital with head injuries believed to be linked to the incident.

He is in a serious but not life-threatening condition, say police.

Armed officers were called to the area of Lodge Lane and Coltard Road at 8pm last night, after gunshots were heard.

Detective Sean Kelly-Martland said: “This initially appears to have been a targeted attack, but we’re keeping an open mind as to the circumstances.

“The use of weapons on our streets will not be tolerated and we know this will be an alarming incident for local residents.

“If you saw or heard anything suspicious in Coltard Road or the surrounding area around 8pm, or have captured home CCTV or dashcam footage, please do come forward in confidence as any information could be vital to the investigation.”
