Merseyrail are partnering with Liverpool BID to give free tickets and giveaways to commuters on Blue Monday.
The initiative, dubbed Yellow Monday, will mean those travelling on the day will be able to apply for free tickets ahead of January 19th.
Whilst the initiative targets workers, the free ticket scheme only applies to those buying tickets on the day, meaning commuters with monthly or yearly passes might miss out.
Chloe Gaughen, Marketing Manager for Liverpool BID, said: “Yellow Monday is all about getting people back to the office on what is traditionally known as a sort of depressing and blue day.
“So we kind of thought, let’s turn it on the head, and get everyone back in the office, enjoying the day, and just realising how great Liverpool is.”

With the cost of living and the price of transport rising, some commuters would like to see more initiatives like Yellow Monday throughout the year to help with costs.
Bethany Walsh, a commuter, said: “I think it’s good. I think it’s nice to bring something to cheer people up and it drives a bit more business to the centre.
“I think it is best for people who commute every couple of days. If you’re someone who does get the monthly passes you’re not really seeing any benefit for it.”
She went on to say that those with passes are often overlooked when it comes to compensation for delays and offers such as Yellow Monday.
Chloe Gaughen, said: “If you have an annual pass it wouldn’t work, it’s just if you buy day tickets, but there’s lots of other activities happening on that day that’s just one element.”
Offers include the chance to win a bouquet of flowers for a nominated colleague, morning dips at Wyld Sauna, coffee and food giveaways.
As well as this, there will be live music at Moorfields station, yoga sessions, and suicide prevention training in the workplace to aid Liverpool businesses in lifting employees spirits.
