Men across the country will be walking 11,000 steps on every day of March to raise awareness for prostate cancer, all in the name of saving lives.

This is after an initiative set up by Prostate Cancer UK called ‘March the Month’ which motivates people to get moving every day to symbolise the 11,000 men who die from prostate cancer each year.

Men and women across the UK have set up fundraisers for their completion of the challenge, with over 7,500 donations and £160,000 raised so far, and each with a powerful story to tell.

Ian Wallace, a man competing in the challenge, spoke to Prostate Cancer UK about his experience: “In April 2023 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Underwent surgery in July (on my birthday!) and this was followed by tough and testing months of recovery to try and get back on my feet slowly but surely I am getting there.

“I was given the news in late September that the surgery was successful and now cancer-free.

“I am so glad to be able to Join thousands of people, across the nation, committing themselves to walk 11,000 steps a day throughout March.”

The money raised from these fundraisers will go towards a multitude of things such as MRI scans, blood samples and essential printed information, all designed to identify and help treat prostate cancer faster and earlier on in the process.
