Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood factory is to close temporarily on Monday as a result of Covid-related problems related to the supply of computer chips.
The car manufacturer announced that the site, along with another in Castle Bromwich, would go through a “limited period of non-production”.
The Halewood factory employs thousands of people and is one of the largest manufacturing factories in the region.
A spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover said: “Like other automotive manufacturers, we are currently experiencing some Covid-19 supply chain disruption which is having an impact on our production schedules and our ability to meet global demand for some of our vehicles.
“As a result, we have adjusted production schedules for certain vehicles which means that our Castle Bromwich and Halewood manufacturing plants will be operating a limited period of non-production from Monday April 26.
“Manufacturing continues at our Solihull plant.
“We are working closely with affected suppliers to resolve the issues and minimise the impact on customer orders wherever possible.”
This news comes after Jaguar Land Rover announced a 13% reduction in sales as a result of the Covid pandemic.
