Southport is celebrating with a massive year of culture, including art, performances and music throughout the year.

The programme includes events such as the Lightport celebration, an immersive sound installation by leading international artists that will turn the town into a walk-through rainbow of colour and creativity, which is taking place in February.

The Big Top Festival in May will see modern circus performers take over the town with breath-taking acts, live music and workshops for all ages.

May will also see the return of Southport’s traditional Food and Drink Festival for foodies and families provided by local traders.

The Grand National is set to return

Liverpool’s event calendar wouldn’t be the same without the Grand National, which will return in April.

The event, which attracts a global audience, will take place over three days of quality racing and iconic fashion.

This year’s event starts on Thursday 9th April, with Ladies Day on Friday 10th April and the National on Saturday 11th April.

Foo Fighters and more at Anfield

American rock band Foo Fighters will take to the stage at Anfield this summer as part of the Take Cover Tour 2026.

Liverpool will take over our screens with This City is Ours 2, The Cage, and Clayface

The city is back in our living rooms and cinemas this year as several TV shows and one major film was set or filmed across the region.

The successful crime drama This City is Ours returns to BBC for a second series, while Merseyside-writer Tony Schumacher’s The Cage, a high-stakes crime story set in a Liverpool casino and starring Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha, will air later this year.

Hollywood blockbuster Clayface, which saw the city centre locations transform into Gotham, is due for release in September.

Classic musical Little Shop of Horrors will be back at Christmas at the Playhouse.
